Overview

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the machining department. Plans and directs the team to achieve product quality and customer satisfaction through on-time delivery while effectively controlling department cost.  Directs the activities of the group to ensure smooth flow of work and that production schedules are met.  Establishes, interprets and modifies operational processes and procedures while identifying and implementing operational improvement initiatives.  Develops up to date accurate documentation and reports to reflect machine shop activities.  Participates with management in developing/updating operating procedures, training selection, retention, and development of staff.  Responsible for associate safety by enforcing all safety rules, regulations and practices.

  • Ensure that all associates work safely by following all rules, guidelines and practices. Responsible for ensuring the machine shop is meeting KPI requirements (Safety, Quality, Performance, People).
  • Supervises machinists and supporting staff through all phases of production in accordance with established schedules. Offers guidance and coaching to manufacturing personnel.
  • Applies knowledge of production planning, scheduling of workload, tooling requirements and machine maintenance to ensure a smooth flow of work through the department.
  • Evaluates and determines staffing requirements and technical capabilities of personnel within the function, and participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
  • Ensure ISO and all other regulatory requirements are met and maintained.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to resolve production issues, ensure routing accuracy, process and reduce scrap levels, and implement improvement actions.
  • Create and maintain a collaborative work environment that will promote and support meeting manufacturing requirements.
  • Encourage and lead associates in Rapid Continuous Improvement (RCI) efforts.

To perform this job successfully, the applicable candidate must be a team player.

  

  • High school diploma or equivalent or minimum 3 years hands on experience as outlined in above essential functions.
  • Minimum 2 years in machining and/or related field including one year supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated in depth working knowledge of machining manufacturing principles, concepts, regulations, and practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and manufacturing requirements.
  • CNC programming and machine operation skills are preferred.
  • Ability to resolve challenging issues and maintain effective communication.
  • Computer skills required.  Intermediate level in excel and word preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO requirements and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and engage staff with strong mentoring skills required.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and adjust in a fast-paced work environment and make timely decisions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and recommend and implement resolutions.
  • Ability to train and develop staff and to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities.
