Responsibilities

Position Summary:   The position is responsible for supporting product development as it relates to purchasing activity for systems and components ranging from concept and process selection, cost modeling, and project management. Authorized contractual agent (buyer) of Snap-on Incorporated with all Suppliers. Responsible for performing duties relating to the sourcing function such as project tracking, tooling and supply contracts, POs, order follow-up, payment reconciliation and provides administrative back up and support to supervisor. Communicates verbally and in writing with suppliers to solicit quotations for products and expedites delivery of open orders. Coordinates with Engineering, Production, and Suppliers for initial part runoff.  Create additional value by significantly reducing Merchandise or Manufacturing costs. Utilize strategic sourcing principles and purchasing best practices to build long-term relationships with suppliers, leverage joint capabilities and foster new product and process innovations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all new product projects from engineering and merchandising that involve outside suppliers.
  • Send out RFQ/RFP as required for vendor selection.
  • Understand cost drivers and manipulate to drive lowest cost sourcing with sensitivity to current corporate commodity strategies.
  • Negotiate for business unit. Write contracts and purchase orders as needed and assure pricing is correct.
  • Act as a liaison between engineers, suppliers, manufacturing plants, and merchandising.
  • Coordinate tooling needed for new products. Issue Tooling agreements, bailment agreements as needed. Track all corporate tooling assets in conjunction with the plants.
  • Performs supplier assessments, quality audits, and initiate PPAP on all parts.
  • Review drawings for completeness, coordinate proper Rev levels for tooling and initial part delivery.
  • Recommend and implement initial inventory strategy and part delivery with Supplier
  • Monitor supplier performance to POs and contracts.
  • Track and communicate lead times, technical requirements, milestones, and timelines with engineering, suppliers, production plants, and merchandising as needed.
  • Drive project completion and on time launch of new projects.
  • Assist engineering and merchandising with defining project requirements regarding quality, cost, specifications, and delivery.
  • Involve suppliers early in the process to maximize quality and minimize cost. (early supplier involvement).

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • BA Degree preferred in Operations, Mathematics, Engineering or related field with strong analytical background.
  • Significant experience with manufacturing and quality processes in a plant environment.
  • Preferred knowledge of supply chain principles.
  • Effective communication (written, oral) and interpersonal skills required.  Must be a self starter who is able to work independently and also within a team environment.
  • Strong Negotiating Skills with ability to drive costs downward.
  • Ability to review and create long term supply contracts.
  • Familiarity of ERP (Prefer LN) software, Web based supply purchasing software and Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and quality systems such as ISO.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to drive a project to completion in a multidiscipline environment.
