The global leader in automotive diagnostic equipment, Snap-on Diagnostics has an immediate opening for a Sustaining Engineer I.

 

Entry level Engineer sustaining production support systems for electronic Diagnostic products, as an individual contributor working within a production operations team.  A production assembly and test technical resource contributor in product design reviews in conjunction with an electronic product project team.  Work with Quality Manager or Operations management on production and/or new product project planning details as required.  Work with operations and engineering teams to develop processes for new product projects on time and within budget.  Individuals in this capacity are entry level to having some experience in electronic product design, test and assembly skills.  (Sustaining Engineering includes: Support the in-house production line, key contract manufacturer(s), the QA department and the repair department whenever needed. This includes the design, development and supporting maintenance and repair of test fixtures and assisting with new product introduction and creating new fixtures.  Analyze any production assembly/test problems that may arise and determine solutions).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide standard design, development and debug of electronic diagnostics hardware, software and mechanical systems as an individual contributor working within a sustaining engineering role of a production operations team.
  • Assume responsibility for standard technical requirements of the product design and insure adequate testing of the product prior to release tor final production/test in a sustaining engineering role
  • Work closely with other engineering facilities within Snap-on, as well as, outside providers of Professional services to assure technical requirements are met
  • Work some management intervention to assure that technical requirements are met on all projects, once tasks are assigned
  • Participate in preparation of appropriate documentation and design reviews to ensure accuracy and adherence to technical requirements.  
  • Provide technical and schedule estimates for product production, assembly or test responsibilities on assigned projects. Assume responsibility for completing individual project milestones and maintaining schedule.
  • Provide support for review and analysis of returned products and perform root cause analysis in sustaining engineering role
  • Participate in design reviews for new products as required in the sustaining engineering role
  • Participate in product cost reduction efforts as required in the sustaining engineering role
  • Provide support to review and approve replacement components for purchasing as required in a sustaining engineering role
  • Provide hardware engineering with feedback regarding problems
  • Provide support for the customer care and repair dept with the analysis of product calls to reduce the quantity of returned units in a sustaining engineering role
  • Follow company policies and procedures

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Technical College degree or preferred Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science or equivalent work experience

Years of Experience:

  • 0 - 4 years industry experience
  • Good technical knowledge, analysis, and debugging skills within major field of emphasis
