We presently have a full-time opening for a Utility - Black Oxide Coating Production Associate at our Elkmont, Alabama Manufacturing Plant. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Overtime as maybe required to include weekends for the business operations. 

 

The ability to perform any combination of the following tasks:   Reads production schedule or work order to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The product produced will be of uncompromising quality to meet our commitment to passionate customer care.  Pushes button to activate crane that automatically lifts baskets of product and immerses baskets into a series of tanks that coat parts with black oxide.  Monitors temperature of solutions and turns equipment knobs and valves to adjust temperature and regulate liquid volume.

 

Responsibilities

KEY TASKS 

  • Observes gauges and adjusts controls of machine to regulate functions, such as speed and temperature, according to specifications.
  • Presses or turns controls to activate and set equipment operation according to specifications.
    Positions and feeds materials on plate into machine, manually or automatically, for processing.
  • Fills black oxide tanks with coating material or solution and immerses work pieces in coating solution for specified time.
  • Mixes coating material or solution according to formula, or uses premixed solutions.
  • Positions containers to receive parts, and loads or unloads materials in containers, using roller tables, cranes.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Maintains production records.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes
  • Uses either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles). 
  • Handling and Moving Objects
  • Using one's own hands and arms in handling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials, or in manipulating things, including the use of keyboards.  Also, utilizes a crane over the dipping line.



Qualifications

Requirements

 

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or 1 to 3 years manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical skills:  add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Good communication skills.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools. Chemistry -Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods 
  • Equipment monitoring, operation and controls of systems- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  •  Product Inspection - Inspecting and evaluating the quality of products
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be aware and adhere to all company and departmental safety procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work on 1st,  2nd,  or 3rd shifts

 Preferred

  • Some prior experience with the operations of chemical tank lines. Some experience in the performing work around hazardous chemicals

 

Physical Requirements

  • Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly make precise adjustments in moving the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand, a hand together with its arm, or two hands to grasp or manipulate objects.
  • Trunk Strength - The ability to use one's abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing. 
  • Dynamic Strength – The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue.  The ability to exert a moderate amount of muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Bending, standing, repetitive motion, and walking for an extended length of time (typically 8 hours)
  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
  • Extensive lifting of approximately 30 pounds
  • Repetitive motion for an extended length of time (typically 8 hours)
  • Visual alertness
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • ability to concentrate/focus on the task at hand for the duration of your shift
  • The ability to wear PPE: Chemical Apron, Chemical Resistant arm protectors, Neoprene Gloves, Facial Chemical Mask, Ear plugs.
  • Must be able to stay alert and awake during the night time / early morning hours for the entire shift.
