We presently have a full-time position for a Quality Manager at our Elkmont, Alabama manufacturing plant. This position reports directly to the plant manager and is responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all quality systems at the Elkmont, Alabama manufacturing facility, which includes, but not limited to ISO-9001 (the latest version). Use appropriate skills and techniques to improve process capability resulting in improved products and reduce the overall cost of quality.

Responsibilities

KEY TASKS

 

  • Drive non-negotiable safety throughout the quality department as well as on the production floor.
  • Act as both quality systems and quality control manager.
  • Act as the Elkmont plant quality management representative for quality systems.
  • Ensure compliance to the Snap-on Quality system (ISO9000) and coordinate training activities.
  • Ensure that the Elkmont plant’s quality system is properly and accurately documented to meet the requirements of all systems standards.
  • Ensure that inspection, measuring and test equipment in the facility is controlled per the plant’s policies/ procedures.
  • Develop and maintain the documented quality system.  This includes, but is not limited to writing, reviewing, and updating quality policies, procedures, inspection instructions, and work instructions. 
  • Ensure that nonconforming product is detected and that proper disposition and corrective/preventative actions are taken to prevent recurrence of nonconformities
  • Develop/ implement and maintain methods of tracking quality performance in terms of scrap/rework and customer complaints. Identify main areas for improvement and drive projects or kaizen events to improve quality metrics.
  • Coordinate internal and 3rd party audits to review quality system(s)
  • Maintain records for deviations, Supplier Rejections Notices (both external as well as inter-plant)
  • Support purchasing with PPAP process and SCAR process to resolution
  • Participate in New Product Development to ensure product is produced within design specifications
  • Interface with corporate Product Management to investigate and resolve field product issues
  • Work with engineering and operations to run DOE’s to improve quality and productivity
  • Supervise direct reports and provide periodic performance feedback with coaching and mentoring.

 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in an engineering or technical discipline, and a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in manufacturing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience related to inspection techniques and procedures.
  • Must have working knowledge of ISO or QS9001 quality systems or the latest version.
  • Should have training and proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, ability to read and interpret blueprints, product standards (internal as well as external to Snap-on) and requirements.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and statistical analysis techniques.   
  • Must be able to communicate with peers and subordinates. Must have basic knowledge of production machines, tool & fixture design, and safe operating practices and procedures and basic understanding of mathematical principles. 
  • Leadership ability to provide guidance and direction
  • Demonstrated experience with FMEA, Six Sigma, SPC, DOE and other quality or technical tools
  • Quality certification CQA - preferred.
  • Black Belt Certification is preferred.
