Overview

Carry out legal tasks and administration with high levels of accuracy, demonstrating well-reasoned independent judgment in a high volume and fast-paced environment for a financial creditor. This role is under the direct supervision of the Director of Legal Services and is responsible for supporting the Civil Litigation paralegals in managing the placement of past due accounts with Vendor Law Firms for legal recovery/collection efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the other Civil Litigation paralegals with account placements to our Vendor Law Firms.
  • Assist with completing affidavits, which includes notarizing the affidavits and returning the completed documents to the respective Vendor Law Firms.
  • Assist Civil Litigation team as needed within the legal recovery/collection pipeline.
  • Help perform skip tracing efforts to locate customers/defendants to effectuate service.
  • May assist in organizing any potential voluntary surrender arrangements with local Franchisees, the Field and our Vendor Law Firms.
  • Help perform asset searches on dormant judgments to assist in collection efforts. This may include skip tracing for potential places of employment.
  • Assist in updating account information within our law firm vendor management platform.
  • Act as liaison with Vendor Law Firms for any court hearings or other court dates, including preparation of any document requests for such court matters.
  • Assist in the management of deceased accounts to ensure proper handling and communication with the Estate.
  • Review/Prepare/Complete legal documents and related materials as needed under the direction of the Senior paralegals

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelors Degree plus 2-4 years of experience in a financial services environment preferred
  • Recovery experience preferred
  • Valid Notary Certificate or willingness to obtain a Notary Certificate
  • Skip tracing experience to locate individuals or assets preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Paralegal certificate is not required but willingness to work toward certificate is preferred for growth opportunities within the department

Functional expertise through experience and/or education preferred in:

  • Legal writing skills
  • Credit and Collections law
  • Negotiations

Effort: Normal working hours; some overtime expected

Working Environment: Normal office environment
